Who is Bjorn Bjork? 02/03/2015 I am rapidly becoming old, and old people get bad press as our minds begin to fail us, and we forget things and we get easily confused. It's all part of the ageing process and to be expected, but I have an alternative theory. I propose that this apparent deterioration in our mental faculties has nothing to do with the physiological decline of our brains, but rather the fact that we simply have more stuff in our heads than we did when we were younger. Think about it. Our brains have a physical

Choice = Stress 01/10/2015 Many years ago, when I was a boy I remember a conversation with my dad. It was one of those pivotal conversations with profound words of such wisdom that I would never see the world in the same way again. I can’t remember what prompted the conversation, but clearly my dad was unhappy about something. He said, “Do you know what’s wrong with the world son?” “No Dad, what?”, I replied. Life affirming moment coming right up. He then said, “Salt ‘n’ Vinegar crisps.” “Eh?”, was the most

It is what it is. 01/02/2015 OK so it's a new year, 2015, and I've had been able to recharge the batteries ready to go back into battle when I return to work on Monday. So this one is mostly for my work colleagues. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before but I work in the Information Technology (IT) industry - yes I'm a geek. Still not exactly sure what my job title is but I guess I'm a kind of engineer and I build stuff. Sometimes that stuff is really good and sometimes not so much. Sometimes the things we build stop

What makes a Comedy Classic? 12/30/2014 Out of the blue I see something posted on Facebook that irked, annoyed, irritated and vexed me. In fact I would go as far as to say that I have been insulted. Insulted not by my family (that is just about forgivable and pretty much daily occurrence), but by my friends. Out there on social media for the world to see, I am insulted by my friends in the Season of Goodwill. Unbelievable. So who are these people and what could they have done to wake RantyDad from his slumbers? Well let me tell

Dotty vs. Technology 05/03/2014 Dotty hasn’t really given me any decent material to work with. That is until today. Dotty is the first person to admit that she is technologically challenged, but as a bloke technology is like extension to our very soul. As blokes are the masters of the grand gesture, I had been thinking about what amazing gift I could buy Dotty for her birthday. Last year it was an iPhone, technology that scared the life out of her but if you tried taking it off her now she’d rip your head off. Anyway, later

Never ask a woman for directions 08/22/2013 Today's rant is a particular favourite of mine and one that Dotty is particularly guilty of. Women cannot give directions. Well actually they can but they are rubbish directions. To illustrate then let me demonstrate by way of a hypothetical example. Dotty and I live in a quiet suburb of Brisbane with our two daughters, two dogs (Spot and Trixie) and two cats (Queenie and Pajama-man though they aren't relevant to the story). In the next suburb over there is a public tennis court, and let's

Women vs. Car Park. 07/08/2013 I'm not sure if this is a common problem, but I think there is some biological basis to this so I'd be interested to hear from other people what their experiences are when it comes to women trying to park in car parks. I'm not talking about their ability to position the car into a tight spot or to reverse into a slot between two other cars. I think has been proven that women do not possess the same spacial awareness as men so these kind of tasks are more difficult for them. That isn't my issue

Hmmmmm, really moist. 07/07/2013 If you are a baker, somebody who really enjoys making cakes and breads, then you are generally the kind of person who enjoys sharing your craft with friends, family and colleagues. At my last job there were number of very talented cooks who were always bringing in scrumptious treats to share around the office. All they ever asked for is a little appreciation for their talents. Compliments are easy when cake is good: "Delicious!" "That is orgasmic!" "Can I have a another piece?" "I must have the

The Definition of Genius 07/06/2013 What is Genius? The word genius is banded around quite liberally these days. Everybody seems to be a genius in some capacity. For example, my kids are genius mess makers. But, I think we need to be a bit more selective before dishing out the genius badge. Sir Isaac Newton, Leonardo Da Vinci, Thomas Edison, Charles Darwin, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, Roger Penrose, Stephen Hawking, Marilyn vos Savant, Richard Dawkins and Douglas Adams would all be people on my genius list,
